SECPhO, the Southern European Cluster in Photonics and Optics, has been recently founded in Barcelona by the seven technology based companies: Easy-Laser, Ficosa, Hamamatsu, Indra, Lamp, Macsa, Monocrom, Radiantis and Sensofar, with the support of the UPC (Polytechnic University of Catalonia) and CD6 (Research Centre for Sensor, Instrument and Systems Development).
SECPhO is committed to increasing the competitiveness of the Spanish optics and photonics industry, supporting a generation of high added value products and solutions. In particular, the cluster fosters collaborative R&D projects, supports the improvement of production capabilities and processes and enhances market internationalization.
SECPhO’s product portfolio ranges from lasers, optical fibres and new light sources (LEDs, OLEDs, etc), to sensors and photographic optical instruments. The Spanish optics and photonics sector involves more than 110 enterprises, with total revenues near to 1.3 Million euros and reaching more than 7000 jobs.Following SECPhO’s foundation, more than 40 applications from companies and research centres have been received to join the cluster and more new members are expected to join in the next few months.
