International Year of Light: Official Closing Conference

All good things must come to an end, and so, after what can only be described as a thoroughly enlightening International Year of Light (so far), a closing ceremony has been organised to officially bring down the curtain on the initiative.

The ceremony will take place at ‘La Sede Central del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC)’ in Madrid on 24th November. Among other things it will be marked by an address by Dr. John Dudley of the University of Besancon de Francia (also chairman of the IYL 2015 Steering Committee) engagingly entitled ‘1,000 years of photonics, 50 years of solutions’.

His address will be supported by a short video presentation summarising the activities of various CSIC centers in the field of light and display technologies, along with an exhibition, ‘A Universe of Light’, in the building’s central reception area.

The event is being supported by the Spanish Committee of the International Year of Light, the Spanish Society of Optics (SEDOPTICA), the French Embassy, Freixenet and the Association of Professional Lighting Designers (APDI). Other attendees of note include Carmen Vela, Emilio Lora-Tamayo, Maria Josefa Yzuel (President of the Spanish Committee of the International Year of Light) and Joaquín Campos (Director of the Institute of Optics Daza Valdés CSIC).

Appropriately perhaps, the ceremony is due to commence at 18.00, shortly after nightfall.
