Professor Majid Ebrahim-Zadeh
President and Chief Scientist
Professor Majid Ebrahim-Zadeh has a long-standing track record at the forefront of research in optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) and nonlinear frequency conversion technology, spanning over 20 years. He received his PhD from St Andrews University, UK, and joined ICFO-Institute of Photonic Sciences, Barcelona as an Institucio Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avancats (ICREA) Professor in 2003. His pioneering contributions to nonlinear frequency conversion and OPOs over the past two decades have resulted in numerous breakthroughs and led to the development of new generations of light sources from the UV to mid-IR. His research has encompassed nonlinear optical technologies in all time-scales, from continuous-wave and nanosecond to ultrafast picosecond and femtosecond regime. He has published over 450 technical papers, including 70 invited, keynote and tutorial presentations at major international conferences, and has been a regular instructor of the short course on OPOs at CLEO/USA since 1997 and at CLEO/Europe since 2007. Many of the innovative systems first demonstrated in his laboratory have become versatile enabling tools for many scientific and technological applications, and have been established as viable commercial products available in the market today.
For his innovative research and entrepreneurial achievements, Prof. Ebrahim-Zadeh has received a number of honours and awards, including Royal Society of London University Research Fellowship (UK: 1993-1998, 1999-2001), Royal Society of London Merit Awards (UK: 1995, 1999), Innova Prize for technology innovation and commercial enterprise (Spain: 2004), Berthold Leibinger Innovation Prize (Germany: 2010), and Fellowship of OSA (2004) and SPIE (2012). As President and Chief Scientist of Radiantis, Prof. Ebrahim-Zadeh brings a wealth of scientific know-how and technical expertise to the Company.
Dr. Sara Otero Barros
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Sara Otero has almost 20 years of international experience in the photonics industry, in the fields of ultrafast solid-state lasers, fibre optics, semiconductors and optical communications.
She graduated from the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain with a degree in Physics and received her PhD in semiconductor technology from Nottingham Trent University in the UK in 2000. Sara broadened her expertise at Bookham Technology in Oxfordshire, UK, as a development engineer. In 2003, she joined ICFO (Institute of Photonics Sciences) in Barcelona, where she both founded and served as the head of the Transfer of Technology Department.
In 2004, Sara was awarded the Innova Prize for technology innovation and commercial enterprise and in 2005, co-founded Radiantis. Sara has successfully led the Company as the Chief Executive Officer since the Company was formed. She is also a member of the Company´s Board of Directors. Her scientific understanding and corporate vision provide strategic guidance to the Company and the Board.
Sara gained an Executive MBA at the Caixanova Business School in Spain in 2008. She is engaged in promoting and supporting the photonics industry in the Spanish community and currently serves as a member of the Executive Board of SECPhO, the Southern European Cluster of Photonics. She is a regular teacher and invited speaker at multiple congresses in science and innovation and is the author of many research publications and several international patents.
